Last week I had two golf games scheduled. Nothing makes my wife angrier than me leaving the house wearing my golf outfit. She told me sarcastically, "Oh, you are playing golf twice this week?" I responded, "Honey, I am in the relationship business!"
There is nothing that solidifies relationships more than 18-holes on a golf course. This week I played with a friend I do not see very often - Aashay Sanghvi. Aashay and I started our venture capital career together, working at Tallwave Capital in 2015. Below is a picture of the TWC dream team with Nate Mortenson.
Aashay went from Tallwave Capital to Harvard undergrad. I had the pleasure of visiting and embarrassing him on campus one year when I was in Boston. He and his friends ridiculed me for taking the worst picture of Harvard Yard in history. Picture below.
Aashay now works at Haystack VC as their Principal/VP. Haystack has had some spectacular deal flow and has participated in deals such as Carta, Opendoor, and DoorDash. Aashay also writes an insightful technology long-form that can be viewed here.
We played with a mutual friend Sameer Patel who made a funny comment on group text saying. "Still can't believe David finagled his way into your life, but he's better for it."
There is no better term than "finagled" to describe how I have wedged my way into Aashay's life. I saw a winner back in 2015, and I have continued to build a foundation over the years. I am lucky to have a friend and colleague like Aashay. As I said to my wife- "I am in the relationship business."
